What is the Left Unspent method?
One Number that tells you what you can spend this month. Take your income, subtract fixed expenses, subtract savings and reserves, and what remains is your discretionary budget. You track only that One Number.
How is this different from a budgeting app?
Most budgeting apps make you categorize and reconcile every transaction. Left Unspent does not. You set your One Number each month and track it by glancing at one card balance, with no transaction tracking.
Do I need to track every transaction?
No. You put discretionary spending on one dedicated card, and that card's balance is the only thing you watch. Check it against your One Number to see what you have left this month.
Is it for personal or business use?
Both. The same method works for an individual, a household, or an owner-operated business with predictable revenue. The app and the templates each come in personal and business versions.
Is there an app, or do I use a spreadsheet?
